The KFC T20 Big Bash League is the Australian domestic Twenty20 cricket tournament. The Big Bash League replaces the previous competition, the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash and features city-based franchises instead of the state teams which had participated previously. The inaugural season began on 16 December 2011.[1] The top two teams will qualify for the Champions League Twenty20 tournament. The Big Bash is a T20 tournament where players come from their states, with many high profile players coming out of retirement to play cricket again. The BBL gives rookie T20 players the chance to perform on the big stage with their more experienced colleagues.
The competition was organised by Cricket Australia, and sponsored by fast food chicken outlet KFC. The competition was replaced by the Big Bash League as Australia's domestic Twenty20 competition after the 2010–11 tournament. The Victorian Bushrangers were the most successful team during the tournament's running, winning the title four times.
The 2011–12 Big Bash League season is the inaugural season of the Big Bash League, the premier Twenty20 cricket competition in Australia. The tournament replaces the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash, which was run every season from 2005–06 to 2010–11.

Brisbane Heat skipper James Hopes has all but ruled himself out of tonight's Hail Mary BBL game against the Renegades in Melbourne, saying it would take a miracle to get him on the field at Etihad Stadium.
Hopes has missed four Big Bash League games and it has been costly for the Heat, who have just one win to their name and need a miracle themselves to qualify for the finals.
They must thrash the Renegades tonight and Sydney Thunder at the Gabba on Tuesday then hope for favourable results.
While they haven't given up hope, they may have given up Hopes, with the all-rounder saying he was unlikely to risk his chronic knee injury in a short-term dash for the finals, which could possibly risk his participation in the Sheffield Shield campaign.
"I've trained two days in a row now I've trained not quite fully. I probably won't play but I'm down here giving myself every chance," Hopes said.
"I'll need a miracle at the moment. I'm not quite there yet, to be honest. While I'm training, I'm looking forward a fair bit. I don't want to come back too soon – you can't be doing that at my age.
"I'd probably push the envelope a little bit more if we weren't 1-4. Tuesday [v Thunder] is an option but there's a few boxes to tick before that comes. I'll try again over the weekend."
Hopes said his goal was to be at 100 per cent fitness by early February and contribute to Queensland's Sheffield Shield campaign, which the Bulls lead with five wins and a draw from six matches.
